So, we are 31 days into the New Year. We have packed up all the holiday regalia by now or not and resigned ourselves to the fact that we are into 2020 for the long-haul, and that there is no turning back. 2019 is a blur in our rearview mirrors as we set our sights on the new horizons and vistas that we are sure to encounter on our various journeys in 2020.
Having said that, I have to confess that in anticipation of 2020, I engaged in a lot of brainstorming and planning in 2019, in preparation for making some laser-focused and intentional business moves in 2020. Yes, I had it all planned out. I had objectives and goals for each quarter last year. Whichever goals didn’t get accomplished in Q1 would move to Q2 and unfinished business in Q2 would join my entrepreneurial hit list for Q3, and so on.
Admittedly, my list for each quarter got longer and longer as the interlopers from each previous quarter invaded the next quarter like a Dothraki horde. Ok, I exaggerate here, but I think you get the point: operating in the manner previously mentioned might not be the most efficient and effective way to navigate mountains, peaks, and valleys. Nevertheless, here I am again all revved up for the big show in the 2-0!
My point here is that if you are like me, each year is a love affair interspersed with brainstorming, planning, analyzing and re-thinking, and if I am fortunate–executing more than engaging in the contemplative exercises delineated above. So, for me, the 2019 New Year was ushered in like gangbusters! I was hyped, geeked, excited . . . ready for 2019, as I decided to use 2019 as a launching pad in preparation for 2020. Yep, 2019 was my set up for 2020—my sacrificial lamb; my 365 days of knife sharpening, so that I would be ready to grab the entrepreneurial bull by the horns in 2020.
And here we are at the end of the coldest month, and I find myself reflecting and reveling in the many possibilities and positive outcomes that lie ahead in this Brave New Year. My energy is high; my focus laser—time to slay some dragons or die trying! So, unlike the paths, I may have traversed in years past, I claimed that 2020 would be about taking out soft-targets and hard—point-blank about making the magic happen, whatever that magic might be.
Anyway, I wrote this note just to check in to see where you are on that road to achieving all of your goals and dreams for the ‘2-0. So, I ask you, my fellow traveler on the path: do you know where your dreams are as we move to the mid-point of Q1 2020? For me, I decided that 2020 was going to be about creating, cultivating and maintaining passive income streams; jump-starting a few online businesses; publishing a collection of poetry that should have been published in the 20th Century; launching two to three new business endeavors and writing the first of a book in a series that I feel compelled to write.
So, this 2020 thing is very serious for me as you can see. More resolutely, it actually reads like Mission Impossible. Should I accept this mission, and I have–I know that I am going to have to reach deeper than I have ever reached within myself before to tap those extra levels. Nevertheless, I am all-in for the wins. Similarly, I know 2020 will be and is a very serious journey and endeavor for a lot of you, as well.
So, I remind you that it is 2020—the year that many science fiction writers of yesteryear anticipated technological advances like flying cars, intergalactic space travel and colonies on Mars and the moon; in 2020, the imagination says, “Anything is possible!” Again, I ask: do you know where your dreams are? If not, it may be time to engage in a little dream-wrangling: round them up and drive them back down the path that leads to your success and fulfillment in 2020.
